Glasgow 2024: A WorldCon for Our Futures
The last convention I went to was Dublin WorldCon It has been a long time coming going to Glasgow for this year’s WorldCon and I have learnt a lot from my last experience which has informed how things went this time. Firstly I was more prepared, I know that I only have a finite amount of energy and I didn’t over commit. Secondly I had a large group of friends that I was seeing regularly and checking in with so I wasn’t as lonely or overwhelmed. The final part was that whilst my partner didn’t attend the convention he was staying at the hotel and doing his own thing which…

Welcome to 2020
Ugh I know I’ve been missing in action. I kind of ran out of steam at the end of last year the day job really took over and there were some pesky life moments getting in the way of editing podcasts and making this blog as interesting as it could be. So a quick round up. For the first time in forever I did not complete my Good Reads Challenge and, you know what I’m not going to beat myself up over it. It was a large number, I read very few comics and my personal life had a lot going on. This year I’m making some exciting reads…

Shadowrun Character History
I was born in Cuba back near the start of the century when the world was just starting to turn properly to caca for most. One of my earliest memories is ma madre telling Eduardo and I just what she had sacrificed to bring us into the world and how we were a disappointment and her shame. I guess I should explain, Eduardo and I were such disappointments as we were both born dwarven and it was just at the time where we were first generation freaks rather than the kids today. We got stared at a lot as children and I could not help but notice their shame. There…

Roleplay Groups I think I found one that fits me
I want to talk about table top role play (TTRPG) and the amount of fun you can have with the right group and the way things can go. I fell into role play. At Sixth form there were a group of goths who were obsessed with Vampire the Masquerade and I thought it sounded interesting but they were not my friends and I was too busy doing things on stage to push it. But at university I fell in with the Games Society and that was where I got bit by the bug. I mainly played DnD 2nd ed at uni which was what the majority of the group played…

Monty Python Season
The BFI Southbank has been running a Monty Python at 50 season and last weekend it reached its climax. My partner and I headed to see Monty Python and the Holy Grail and a preview of Terry Gilliam’s new film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Monty Python’s Holy Grail was my first Python film. I loved it, and there was a time where I could quote most of it without thinking about it. Seeing on the big screen with an audience made up of fans was glorious. It wasn’t quite levels of quoting along but the laughs from all around the auditorium was heartwarming and felt special. We were…

I’ve been to a marvellous party
Day 2. I think I made it to two panels All the Universe is a stage and Gareth L Powell’s reading. The rest of the time I was soaking up the atmosphere. This is kind of odd as I felt like I’d done a lot more. I interviewed F D Lee who is an absolute star and the podcast for that will be out once I get home. I met lots of people whom I’ve only really ever known online and the sheer joy of putting a face to a handle is awesome. I have also discovered I can network. I hate the word but I went to the orbit…

Hello from Dublin
I’m writing this in my halls of residence at Trinity College Dublin which is the closest I ever got to attending a decent university. I’m feeling absolutely exhausted right now it has been a long couple of days. Yesterday was all about the travel and the accompanying anxiety of going to new places on one’s own and figuring everything out myself. I also got caught in the mother of all downpours with my luggage as I was doing the final trek to the dorm and briefly felt like a drowned rat. Things vastly improved after a change of clothes and dinner with some friends at a lovely Japanese noodle place.…
